Elected Texans Believe Does Not Apply to Syrian Refugees
This is the worst case of hypocritical
bullshit I have ever seen or heard about ... see if you agree:
Texas is notorious for its gun culture.
Over the past couple of years, we have seen an expansion of laws allowing the “open
carry” of guns, as well as allowing students to “carry firearms on college
campuses.” But we also must not forget about the lunacy of the open carry law
in Texas which at one point threatened groups like Moms Demand
Action who opposed their agenda when they showed
up outside their meetings carrying assault rifles. Real democracy, right?
From here and Talking Points Memo: Texas State Rep. Tony Dale is arguing against giving any refugees asylum in Texas because of their state gun laws, stated this way:
“In a two-page letter sent to Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), Texas Rep.
Dale asked state officials to reject the resettlement of more Syrian refugees
within the Lone Star State’s borders after Friday’s terror attacks in Paris. He
argued that immigration documents granted to refugees would allow them to
obtain Texas drivers’ licenses, which in turn would allow them to procure
firearms.”
“While the Paris attackers used suicide vests and grenades it is
clear that firearms also killed a large number of innocent victims,” Dale
wrote. “Can you imagine a scenario were a refugee is admitted to the United
States, is provided federal cash payments and other assistance, obtains a
driver’s license and purchases a weapon and executes an attack?” [Source]
You read that right, a pro-gun Republican lawmaker is warning that
Texas shouldn’t allow refugees to come to Texas because it is too easy to buy a
gun there. He claims that if they established residency in Texas, they could
get a driver’s license and then procure weapons to carry out a terrorist attack.
My view is simple: I suggest that every Texas lawmaker who voted for their gun laws, open carry and others, just glance in the nearest mirror when speaking in such an outrageous manner to see both the problem and solution.
