Well-known GOP “Platform” for
People on SNAP (Food Stamps)
Who wants to bet that the “superiors” mentioned in this story with
the following headline are not GOP-related or at least GOP-leaning “superiors?”
The story: Five New Mexico state workers
admitted last week that they denied food assistance to needy families after
being pressured by superiors. According to a KTRK report, five workers at the state’s Human Services
department told a federal court that they falsified records to claim that
families applying for food assistance had more than $100 in assets.
Most GOPers message to needy
families and many with small children on “public assistance” (that the GOP
still calls “welfare”) is this: Be quiet and eat your cookie or cracker or
whatever that thing is.
Oh, yeah, the GOP has a record to prove my point, too. To wit:

Hardly any other federal
undertaking – with the exception of the Affordable Care Act (Obama-care) – has
attracted more hostility from the far right than the food-stamp program, as seen
here.
And seen here: House Republicans are set to unveil a budget on Tuesday morning that will reportedly slice over a hundred billion dollars out of the food stamps program over the coming decade. Such cuts would amount to about 15 percent of the program’s projected spending over those years. The cost of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is already declining naturally as the economy recovers and fewer families need the safety net, and Congress has already cut billions of dollars from the program in recent years.
So, SNAP families: Hands off. This is reserved for the top brass as it were.
