Two Genuine American Heroes Right Now: For Assessing and Standing Up to Trump

Two Honest and Brave Republicans: Where Are the Others
(Those who say they stand for America)

Part of Flake’s Senate Floor Speech (McCain's note below):

Trump's use of a term favored by Stalin, the media is the enemy of the people, is chilling. This alone should be a source of great shame for us in this body, especially for those of us in the president's party,” adding: “Trump's first year in office was a year which saw the truth — objective, empirical, evidence-based truth — more battered and abused than any other in the history of our country, at the hands of the most powerful figure in our government, and “Trump's attacks are not benign. They have the effect of eroding trust in our vital institutions and conditioning the public to no longer trust them. The destructive effect of this kind of behavior on our democracy cannot be overstated.”

Flake specifically cited “Trump's use of the term “fake news” has encouraged authoritarian leaders around the world, who now routinely dismiss criticism as “fake news.”

[Flake and McCain both cited such comments used by Syrian President Bashar Assad, Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte, and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, among others].

Flake said as a Republican that he is ashamed of Trump and said politicians in both parties must stand up to his attacks, adding:No longer can we compound attacks on truth with our silent acquiescence. No longer can we turn a blind eye or a deaf ear to these assaults on our institutions.”

Flake also denounced Trump's frequent claim that investigations into Russia's interference in the 2016 election are a “hoax” and add that ignoring or denying the truth about Russia's actions leaves the U.S. vulnerable to future attacks.

Flake continued:We know that the attacks orchestrated by the Russian government during the election were real and constitute a grave threat to both American sovereignty and to our national security,” adding:Yet Trump has done little or nothing to investigate the Russians or defend America against future attacks,” and he continued: “A president, such as Trump, who cannot take criticism, who must constantly deflect and distort and distract — who must find someone else to blame — is charting a very dangerous path. And a Congress that fails to act as a check on the president adds to the danger.”

My 2 cents and related from John McCain: He also decried Trump's use of the term “fake news saying that Trump was encouraging autocrats around the world “to silence reporters, undermine political opponents, stave off media scrutiny, and mislead citizens.

This was part of McCain’s Op-ed in The Washington Post, wherein he added that Trump's attempts to undermine the free press “make it more difficult to hold repressive governments accountable, and the constant cries of "fake news" undercut legitimate reporting and strips activists of one of their most powerful tools of dissent.” McCain concluded.

Super speech by Flake and and spot on Op-ed from McCain. Both are a must read for every member of Congress and the public at large.

Now watch the Trump based and W/H surrogates comes forth to defend him, spin Trump’s words, actions, and deed to deflect the blame on people like Flake, McCain, and of course Hillary and Bill Clinton and other prominent DEMS, or anyone who challenges Trump in any way with his raw language, nasty tweets, and nasty statements and childish nicknames for those who speak out against his ranting and ugliness.

Thanks for stopping by.
