To call any person a
liar especially our President is historic
(For Donald J.
Trump it is both historic and factual)
MAJOR UPDATE
(April 26, 2018) – Trump calls into FOX and Friends and from calm intro begins a 30-minute
rant starting with the biggie again over the air on the Iranian nuclear deal (starts at the 1:35
mark) then a string of lies from there (see on YouTube below) — My note: horrible show, just horrible:
Introduction: The latest string of Trump lies re: The Iranian nuclear deal. First, this short reminder from Politico of who Trump truly is – that is: He is a historical liar.
Trump and his trail of lies –
now by all accounts numbers well over 2,000 (nearly 500 lies in his first 8
months in office alone – see the chart above).
All president lies – people lie – fact: Ronald Reagan said he wasn’t aware of the Iran-Contra
deal (evidence shows he was). Bill Clinton said he did not have sex with that
woman (Monica Lewinsky– but he did – or at least close enough).
Lying in politics transcends political party and era. It is, in some
ways, an inherent part of the profession of politicking. But Donald Trump is in
a different category.
His sheer frequency, spontaneity, and seeming irrelevance of his lies
have no precedent. Nixon, Reagan, and Clinton were protecting their reputations
– Trump seems to lie for the pure joy of it.
I note: The worst part is that he expects people to believe whatever he says no matter what he says.
A whopping 70
percent of Trump’s statements that PolitiFact checked during
the 2016 campaign were false, while only 4% were completely true, and 11% mostly
true. (Compare that to “Crooked Hillary Clinton” a mere 26 percent of her statements were deemed
false.
Those who have followed
Trump’s career say his lying isn’t just a tactic, but an ingrained habit. Trump
used the phrase truthful hyperbole a term coined by his
ghostwriter referring to the flagrant truth-stretching that Trump employed,
over and over, to help close sales. Trump apparently loved the wording, and
went on to adopt it as his own.
======================================================
The story for today: Once again the blatant, flat-out, bald-faced lies vis-à-vis the
Iranian Nuclear Deal that Donald J. Trump hates and he can’t figure out why he
hates the deal and he can’t even get the facts straight except in another
string just plain serious of lies about deal – the deal by all accounts, including
the nuclear watch dog, the IAEA, says that Iran is complying fully with the
deal which six major powers: the US, UK, France, Germany, China, and Russia
signed on to is working. Details of Trump’s latest string of lies is from this
fact checking research here
from the AP. Short, sweet, and easy to follow:
WASHINGTON (AP)
— President Donald Trump likes to tell a story about the U.S. paying out
billions of dollars to Iran as part of the multinational deal freezing its
nuclear program and easing sanctions against it.
What he doesn’t say is that
most of that money was Iran’s to begin with. The rest relates to an old debt
the U.S. had with Iran.
The numbers and some details
change in his retelling — dating back to the 2016 campaign — but his bottom line is always the same:
The Obama administration was hoodwinked
into giving Iran all that money, some of it in a huge and hidden bundle of cash.
The latest Trump iteration of
his claim and the reality behind it.
Trump’s remarks before a meeting with
French President Emmanuel Macron. At a news conference Tuesday April 24, 2018
when he spoke about “giving them, Iran,
$150 billion at one point.”
TRUMP: “The Iran deal is a terrible deal. We paid
$150 billion. We gave $1.8 billion in cash. That’s actual cash, barrels of
cash. It’s insane. It’s ridiculous. It should have never been made. But we will
be talking about it.”
THE FACTS:
There was no $150 billion payout from the U.S. treasury. The money he refers to
represents Iranian assets held abroad that were frozen until the deal was
reached and Tehran was allowed to access its funds. The payout of about $1.8
billion is a separate matter. That dates to the 1970s, when Iran paid the U.S.
$400 million for military equipment that was never delivered because the
government was overthrown and diplomatic relations ruptured.
That left people, businesses
and governments in each country indebted to partners in the other, and these
complex claims took decades to sort out in tribunals and arbitration. For its
part, Iran paid settlements of more than $2.5 billion to U.S. citizens and
businesses. The day after the nuclear deal was implemented, the U.S. and Iran
announced they had settled the claim over the 1970s military equipment order,
with the U.S. agreeing to pay the $400 million principal along with about $1.3
billion in interest.
The $400 million was paid in
cash and flown to Tehran on a cargo plane, which gave rise to Trump’s dramatic
accounts of money stuffed in barrels or boxes and delivered in the dead of
night. The arrangement provided for the interest to be paid later, not crammed
into containers.
My 2 Cents: Now here we are again with this madman in the Oval
Office – whipping up a frenzy with major world consequences and nuclear weapons
that is packed full of lies. What can we do – indeed what can anyone do?
What is worse, is how can anyone trust or believe Trump? The short answer: Most cannot – only
his loyalists.
It may be too late to stop him – his lies are habitual – thus the #1
problem is his credibility – he has none, zero, nada, nil, zip, not one single
drop in the eyes of the world and most Americans.
As the nuclear deal deadline nears – May 12th by all
accounts – we all hold our breath. If Trump pulls us out of this deal, it will
be historic and indeed very troublesome.
How can he be trusted to make any nuclear deal with North Korea and expect
them to trust him not pull out based another pack of lies or sudden urge?
This is a deadly serious issue and moment in history - extremely
serious. Hang on tight.
Thanks for stopping by.
