Hang on tight, Trump’s sustained
“Big Lie” about losing in 2020 is coming back with a vengenace for 2024 reported
on below with a lot of links and facts to counter his lies. The main article is
repoted on from UK’s
TELEGRAPH with their article headline below (formatted to fit the blog). Related

“Trump
backs Speaker Mike Johnson after winning Congress hearings on election fraud”
Televised sessions will scrutinize the security of our elections
as Trump continues to claim 2020 vote was stolen.
First watch this MSNBC
video (6:29 minutes) to set the scene on the subject topic of this post. A very
good presentation:
Trump has backed embattled GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) after he agreed to hold a series
of congressional hearings on election interference.
Trump met Johnson at his Mar-a-Lago FL resort on Friday (April
12) where they pledged to work together on “election integrity” which will
include televised committee sessions over the next two months on our voting
security.
According to Trump –
who continues to falsely claim victory in the 2020 presidential election – the
hearings will “provide the American public an opportunity to hear sworn
testimony and get clarity on election issues, including mail-in voting, and
voter registration.”
Notes on 2020 Election:
Chris Krebs, Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), said in an Agency statement that: “The 2020 election the most secure in American history. There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised.”
Trump fired Krebs the very
next day.
Former Trump AG William Barr said under oath to the January 6 House Select
Committee: “There was no fraud or stolen election in 2020.”
The 2020 election was certified safe and secure and accurate with election night vote counts; state recounts; then audits of the recounts by experts; and, over 60 State and Federal court challenges by Trump, including 2 from SCOTUS.
All of them concluded
that the 2020 election was fair, safe, and secure, and that no fraud was found that
would have changed the outcome of the election.
Republicans are pushing for tighter rules on voting
procedures as Trump and Johnson pledge to introduce legislation that
will require people who register to vote in a federal election to prove that
they are an American citizen.
I insert this from the #1
Voting Rights Center: The Brennan Center for Justice this extract subject: “Millions of Americans lack
documents to prove citizenship.”
The experience in AZ and KS (requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote) shows that such documentary laws create a significant obstacle to voter registration.
There is no reason to believe those two states are unique. National studies continue to show that between 5% and 7% of all Americans don’t have any documents to prove their citizenship since many birth certificates are frequently lost or destroyed, and the most recent State Department statistics indicate that 59% of Americans don’t have passports.
For people without the required documents, a law like
those in AZ and KS can mean a complete loss of the ability to vote.
FYI: A nationwide survey
by the Brennan Center in November 2006 found that 7% percent of the citizen
voting age population, or some 13 million people, did not possess documents
that would prove U.S. citizenship. The rate is twice as high among citizens
earning less than $25,000 per year.
Also, women who changed
their name upon getting married are especially likely to lack the relevant
documents: A third of voting-age women don’t have proof of citizenship that
reflects their current name.
A study by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) also in September 2006 reached substantially the same conclusion: Almost 6% percent of adults born in the United States don’t have access to a passport or birth certificate — around 11 million people.
That study also found that certain groups are especially likely
to lack the documents are low-income, elderly, African Americans, and citizens
from rural communities.
As for Trump, he has wrongly claimed that large numbers of non-citizens frequently vote in our elections and that despite the new bill, the practice of non-citizens voting in Federal elections is already illegal. Trump’s show of support for Johnson comes as he faces a possible leadership challenge after only six months as speaker, led by Trump-ally Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
The two pair appeared
side by side at Mar-a-Lago in a vivid display of how Johnson, and the GOP in
Congress are now freighted to Trump’s needs ahead
of the 2024 November vote, including his claim still that the 2020 election was stolen.
Trump also has claimed without evidence that mail-in voting is subject
to widespread fraud.
Last December he called for
postal voting to be abolished. He suggested last month that “any time the mail
is involved, you’re going to have cheating.”
RELATED FACTS: Trump himself voted by mail in NY in 2018 and in FL
in 2020. He tried to register in FL for 2019 while using an out-of-state
address (which BTW is illegal). Also,
these see this list:
§
Melania Trump attempted to vote by mail in the 2018
NYC mayor’s race but failed to sign the envelope.
§
Ivanka Trump attempted to vote by mail in the NYC
mayor’s race but she sent the ballot in too late.
§
Jared Kushner requested a mail in ballot for the
NYC mayor race, but didn’t return it.
§
Former W/H counselor Kellyanne Conway: Voted by
mail in NJ in 2018.
§
Former VP Mike Pence: Voted by mail in the primary
and general elections in 2018 and again by mail in 2020 Indiana GOP primary.
§
Former AG William Barr: Voted by mail in VA:
2012 and 2019.
§
Former Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany: Voted
by mail in FL 11 times in 10 years.
§
Trump’s former campaign manager Brad Pascale: Didn’t
vote at all in the 2016 due to problems getting absentee ballot in a timely way,
but he voted by mail in 2018.
§
Former HHS Secretary Alex Azar: Voted by mail in
2018.
§
Former Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross: Voted by
mail in FL 15 times.
§
Former RNC Chair Rona McDaniel: Voted by mail in
MI: 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2020.
Trump and Johnson put on a show of unity, despite their
differences over Ukraine aid (Trump opposed), and the re-authorization of FISA bill, which Trump
encouraged Republicans to reject. (FISA has now passed BTW, and the border bill
had strong bi-partisan support).
On his “Truth Social”
platform, Trump posted:
“Mike Johnson has agreed to hold a series of public
committee hearings over the next two months which will provide Members the
opportunity to fact-find in advance of potential legislation to further
safeguard our elections from interference.”
The public hearings would be held to allow the House to scrutinize
how the government is preventing illegal immigrants and non-citizens from
voting in the 2024 presidential election. This all comes amid a row between Trump and President Biden over border security with immigration set to be a key battleground before November.
Johnson said the
legislation: “Would put us on a par with virtually every other democracy
around the world that also prohibits non-citizen voting, it and would expunge
non-citizens already on voter rolls and is a critical thing to do at a very
critical time.”
My 2 Cents: All that above has been posted at various times on a
number of sites – but I felt it was worth repeating here as part of the overall
BS story from Trump and Johnson as stated in the TELEGRAPH main article lined above.
Trump won’t give up on his
“Big Lie” about 2020 being stolen and rigged against him … he can’t – it’s in
his DNA to lie, lie, and continue to lie no matter the truth and facts
otherwise. His lies from 2020 through 2023 and still continuing today seen here.
Thanks for stopping by.
