It amazes me how some actually will not work for a nuclear-free planet under any conditions, and project an attitude that a few nukes can't hurt, or worse, we have to deter others by keeping our nuclear arsenal big and massive.
That kind talk is shear madness. The damage by the two atomic bombs dropped on Japan during WWII (as depicted above) were small in comparison to the nuclear weapons available today on a much larger scale.
Then listen the political hype, and phony outrage for political posturing from the rightwing side about Mr. Obama's remarks to the Russians that were caught on a "hot mic" in Seoul recently:
How (CNN) reported this story: "Republicans wasted no time Monday pouncing on President Barack Obama's now-controversial "open-mic" comment with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. In a new web video, the Republican National Committee painted a stark picture of Obama's exchange with the Russian leader, introducing the conversation with the text: "What Obama tells world leaders when he thinks you aren't listening."
"The video features the clip of Obama and Medvedev holding a private conversation at the Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul, South Korea. During their talk, which was caught on camera and on microphone, Obama asked his Russian counterpart for some "space" on the U.S.-led NATO missile defense system in Europe.
"Obama said to Medvedev: "This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility."
"While Obama put his hand on Medvedev's arm, the Russian president responded saying he would transmit the information to the incoming president, current Prime Minister Vladimir Putin."
The GOP has gone nuts tying themselves in knots ever since.
What would the GOP have wanted him to say, "I'm gonna lose this election and you'll have to deal with Santorum or Romney or Gingrich or Paul and not me. Good luck with those deals."
The GOP is way off on this, their latest weak and feeble attempt to once again paint Mr. Obama as someone he is not for political gain.
We absolutely need a nuclear-free planet and anything the United States can continue to do in that regard is positive and excellent leadership to get world cooperation to join in that goal. Otherwise, consider the alternatives?
