As they say: It Takes One to
Know One
Some from the past that was written about Newton Leroy “Newt” Gingrich (R-GA), who served as
the 50th Speaker of the House from 1995 – 1999 but was forced to
resign following a House reprimand in 1997, now wants the GOP to amend or change
the ethics laws and rules to make them fit just for Donald J. Trump.
Call
this another sick, sick WTF GOP moment. That
story is from
Media Matters here. Here is some stuff in Gingrich’s past that has been written about that is worth
recalling at this point to re-check his credibility, which I measure at zero:
1. Gingrich
is an Elitist: Reflect back on the Tiffany's jewelry kerfuffle (half
a million dollars) that he owed to therm.
2. Gingrich
is a Crony Capitalist: Gingrich started consulting for Freddie Mac five months
after his ouster from congress. .
3. Gingrich
was a Wife Cheater: He cheated on his first wife with the woman who would
become his second wife, and then cheated on her with the woman who became his
third wife who was dying from cancer. He also led the impeachment of Bill Clinton,
all the while he was diddling his Congressional aide.
4. Gingrich
is a Loudmouth: He has been called “The grandfather of negativity, partisan
attack, and governmental gridlock.” Some say Gingrich is an ideas guy, but he
is mostly just loud and blustering.
Now we are to believe this is a “new” Gingrich - one to trust? You see, he wants the GOP to help Trump to be
(more) corrupt, legally speaking than he is now (I guess).
Specifically,
Gingrich is advocating for Congress to “change the ethics laws” for
President-elect Donald Trump, rather than forcing Trump to “disentangle himself
from his multi billion-dollar business to avoid conflicts of interest with his
incoming administration.”
Some Background: Following
Trump’s electoral victory, ethics lawyers warned
that “that no president has ever come into office with such potential
entanglements” as Trump, and that his proposed
plan to address his potential conflicts of interests by simply turning
over his business to his children “doesn’t go far enough to ensure that Trump’s
presidential duties don’t clash with his money-making dealings.”
In fact, ethics lawyers have
cautioned about Trump’s potential conflicts of interest since September, with
the former chief ethics lawyer for President George W. Bush Richard Painter calling
Trump’s potential conflicts of interest “a serious problem” that is deserving
of media attention.
Now, Gingrich, a staunch
Trump supporter, is now calling
for “a whole new approach” for Congress to address Trump’s potential conflicts
of interest saying: “Change the ethics
laws.”
Yeah, that Newt Gingrich –
kinda sad isn’t it, Mr. and Mrs. Gee Old Poops? So, I wonder how many GOPers will in fact agree with
Gingrich and actually advocate this major legal change for Trump? Time will tell.
Bottom Line: Once a weasel, always a weasel. Thanks for stopping by.
