for government agencies (i.e., EPA, NIH (Trump once called them and their work “terrible”
in November 2016), CDC, Ag Dep’t, HHS, Interior, Energy, and NASA. All those agencies
gather and work with public Science data now under serious GOP assault if they
release data via government web sites – amazing turn of events.
TO
DATE re: Trump Cabinet/Agency Chiefs:
1. Scott Pruitt at EPA hates EPA (and as
OK AG sued them numerous times),
2. Rex Tillerson at State (with strong
business and oil ties to Russia and oil).
3. Ryan Zinke for Interior (hates
public-owned land),
4. Rick Perrey at Energy (who said in
date: “Eliminate them” – then oops.).
5. Mick Mulvaney at OMB (who once said publicly
and on-line: “What might be the best question of all is: Do we really need
government funded research at all.”).
And a host of Climate and Science
Deniers around the White House.
Donald
Trump himself once called the National Institutes of Health — a research facility that
has saved millions of lives — terrible.
Thousands
of civil servants produce critically important research on disease threats,
natural disasters, climate change, and so much more. Major changes afoot,
proposed, and in effect already.
Right now, or so it seems like every crackpot we hear on Talk Radio in
in conspiracy sites are now in public high offices. They are ready to literally
throw out both the baby and the bathwater, then keep debris for safekeeping to
stop things they fear, e.g., anything to do with science and government funding
for science and then reporting it openly and freely at government websites and in
other form of communications and mostly re: at scientific agencies – the naturally,
blame the DEMS.
For
example: At the EPA, Trump ordered them to freeze new scientific grants. The
EPA grants billions every year to fund research projects throughout the
country. “These grants help states pay to track air pollution, say, or restore
watersheds, or support researchers studying various environmental problems.” EPA
may see an $815
million in budget cut for various “environment programs and management
and they are now banned from
communicating via press releases or social media communications during this
time to the public.
Reuters reported that
the Trump Administration has ordered the EPA take down its climate change
web page. The EPA climate change page contains links to emissions data and
explainers on the current consensus in the field. It’s currently unclear if the
climate change page removal will happen again since EPA said the Trump’s
EPA team agreed to “stand down” on the order to remove the web page for now.
WHY????
GOP
talks of transparency, working for the public and this shut off communications
with the public on things they do not like or want dealing with health and
science and the food, water, and air we need to live as humans?
The GOP DNA is fixed in cement: They believe that lower taxes (except for the top); less regulation (except what they like); smaller government (just on their terms); and much, much more money and arms and equipment for DOD is and will solve all our problems, large or small - not matter what. They are dead set on sustaining the flat-lined trickle down theory no matter the costs.
Now what? Stay tuned. We are about to find out.
