Justice
in America: What it really looks like these days
(Just
don't ask Trump or Flynn)
My guy through thick and thin - you gotta luv Mike Flynn
Flynn pleaded
guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian officials on Friday December 1st.
Then on Saturday ,
Trump attempted to pivot from Flynn to his former Democratic rival Hillary
Clinton, tweeting: “So
General Flynn lies to the FBI and his life is destroyed, while Crooked Hillary
Clinton, on that now famous FBI holiday ‘interrogation’ with no swearing in and
no recording, lies many times … and nothing happens to her? Rigged system, or
just a double standard?”
Related: ABC News suspended investigative
reporter Brian Ross for an erroneous on-air Friday night report wherein Ross, citing
an unnamed confidant of Flynn, reported that “… then-candidate Donald Trump had directed
Flynn to make contact with the Russians.”
Impact: That would have been an explosive
development in the ongoing Mueller investigation into whether the Trump
campaign colluded with Russia to interfere in the election or not.
Then hours later: Ross clarified his report on-air saying
his source now says: “Trump had done so (directed Flynn to make contacts with
the Russians) but not as candidate-Trump, but as president-elect Trump. At that
point (Ross said) Trump had asked Flynn to contact the Russians about issues
including working together to fight ISIS.”
ABC was widely criticized for merely clarifying and not correcting the Ross report.
It issued the clarifying statement, but not a correction that many expected them
to say, later that same Saturday evening.
Related: From The Hill – i.e., filling the
blanks as it were.
Related: From CBS “Trump’s attorney tweeted
for Trump about Flynn lying”
My notes: So, now we are tied up in knot about “Trump
as candidate” vs. “Trump as president-elect.” Yes, an error – but not serious –
whether “candidate or president-elect) it is still the same Trump isn’t it?
We
are getting nuts about nitpicking … Ross was wrong.
ABC made the clarification
as to whether it was candidate-Trump or president-elect Trump: It is still the
same Trump, same Flynn, and same issue. At least the facts should matter – otherwise
it gives Trump more ammo for him to blast everything as “fake news or a hoax.”
This scenario plays right into the Trump narrative, which is precisely
always what he wants but more importantly what he wants his followers to
believe whether true or false matters not to him or to them. Only his version of the truth matters.
I say, it ain’t over yet – so, stay tuned.
Thanks for stopping by.
