Trump (Again) Ready to Pull Out of Iran Nuclear Agreement: Without Valid Reason

Inside Trump's Head Trying to Figure Him Out
(Nearly An Impossible Task)

Time element (tic-toc) in Play
(Which Trump obviously ignores)

Here we go again — Trump appeasing his base with another campaign pledge without even knowing the impact of a wild one-man decision.

If Trump pulls out of the Iranian nuke deal and Congress does not resist or reverse the decision - fasten your seat belt - bad, bad times will lay ahead. North Korea would have no reason trust Trump about anything or any nuclear deal with them – that is a fact.

Washington (CNN): U.S. officials are taking a two-track approach to the Iran nuclear deal, negotiating with allies to make changes demanded by President Donald Trump even as they prepare to walk away from the international agreement.

Trump set a May 12 deadline – the next date by which he has to waive sanctions against Iran or leave the deal – then for the U.S. and its European allies to agree on changes to address what he sees as its flaws

Trump’s thinking, officials say, is that if the U.S. and Europe are united on amending the deal, the other signatories – Russia and China – will come along, and Iran will have no choice but to comply.

My insert: Trump’s thinking on this single idea is both narrow in scope and way off the mark, and extremely dangerous for world nuclear weapon stability and non-proliferation.

Critics argue that leaving the deal would damage relations with European allies, harm U.S. national security interests – in part by reducing our ability to monitor Iran's nuclear activities – and it would send a clear message to North Korea that the US can't be trusted to honor nuclear agreements.

My 2 cents and the Deal Background: Trump has called the nuclear deal “terrible and the worst deal ever negotiated.” However, facts don’t match his hype (as usual).

Recall that Iran signed the accord in 2015 with six world powers (US, UK, France, German, China, and Russia) agreeing to curb its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of many international sanctions.

Critical Elements that Trump Continues to Ignore or totally Disregard:

1. Secretary of Defense James Mattis has testified before Congress that the deal is in America's best national security interest to remain in it.

2. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) keeps repeatedly finding that Iran is complying with the deal as stipulated and agreed upon.

3. The other signers (UK, France, Germany, China, and Russia) all say Iran is complying and that it should not be discarded in any way.

Anything you can do to voice a view on this could be helpful – for sure Mr. Trump is not capable – not one bit.

Stay tuned and as always, thanks for stopping by.
