This since diplomacy is down the toilet
(Or, the Bolton-Pence Libyan Model)
From various
media sources:
Trump cancels Singapore June meeting with Kim,
Jong-un. Details in a Trump letter to Kim:
Trump said in his letter that he was “very much looking forward to being there with
you. Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your
most recent statement, I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have this
long-planned meeting.”
That “recent
North Korean statement” appears to refer to insults from the North Koreans
directed at VP Mike Pence wherein they said about Pence’s Libyan reference vis-à-vis
North Korea and Kim, Jong-un that he said on FOX recently: “You know, as the president made clear, this
will only end like the Libyan model ended if Kim Jong-un doesn't make a deal.”
(Note: Ironically, that follows the almost exact same words as John “Bomb
Everyone” Bolton said about North Korea and Kim, Jong-un).
Recall that
under that so-called “Libyan model,” former Libyan strongman, Colonel Muammar
Gaddafi, dismantled his nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.
That agreement
was initially seen as a success for denuclearization, as well as Libya
welcoming international inspectors to verify the dismantlement. But eight years
later, Gaddafi was overthrown and killed in a gruesome killing by
Western-backed Libyan rebels (two videos below).
The North
Korean Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Choe, Son-hui, is quoted by the
state-run news agency about that Pence statement, saying: “I cannot suppress my
surprise at such ignorant and stupid remarks gushing out from the mouth of the
US vice-president.”
Further, North
Korea’s decision came amid hostile warnings from North Korea in recent days
that it was reconsidering participation, including a statement that the United
States must decide whether to “meet us in a meeting room or encounter us at
nuclear-to-nuclear showdown.”
A close aide to Kim unleashed a torrent of
invective against the Trump administration Thursday morning, calling Vice
President Pence a “political dummy” for the same remarks in reference to the
downfall of Gaddafi in the 2011 anti-government riots and chaos.
Trump went
on praise Kim, i.e.., that he felt a “wonderful dialogue was building between us,
and some day, I look very much forward to meeting you.”
He went to thank Kim
for his role in the release of three American hostages recently, calling it a “beautiful
gesture and was very much appreciated.”
He concluded: “If you change your mind
having to do with this most important summit, please do not hesitate to call me
or write.”
My 2 Cents: Trump said “If you change your mind,”
seems Trump is the mind-changer in this aspect of the “deal.”
Both Bolton and
Pence were flat out wrong to equate Kim to the Gaddafi overthrow and violent
death. That event is seen in two ABC News video on YouTube below.
NOTE TO VIEWERS: One video is about 3 minutes long
and it is very graphic. It may not be suited for some viewers as it shows the
last few minutes of Gaddafi’s life and how he was brutally murdered by a mob.
Kim
Jong-un and his staff surely have seen it and thus stated that for Bolton and
Pence to have used that (they both called it “the Model” possibly for Kim) is about
as undiplomatic as I’ve ever seen or heard in any sense of the word prior to
any first-time meeting between Trump and Kim.
AGAIN, A STRONG WARNING – THIS IS A VERY GRAPHIC VIDEO:
You may have to sign in to prove you age before viewing if the YouTube warning pops
up.
Here is an extended ABC News video coverage (about 4-minutes).
It leads up the death and last ABC interview of Gaddafi. ALSO VERY GRAPHIC.
Thanks for stopping by.
