Trump is a two-faced clown who will turn on anyone for any kind
of personal vengeance – a matter of history.
Case in point:
Trump boots Barr out as AG even after he stood with him so long – story
here from Business Insider with this headline:
“Texts show William
Barr congratulated Trump's impeachment lawyer as his first Senate trial wrapped
up saying to him: You are a star.”
Background on that: Barr
texted Pat Cipollone, who was also Trump's White House counsel at the time,
saying: “You are a STAR” (that according to a trove of text messages the DOJ
just released).
History between Trump
and Barr: Barr developed a reputation for going to bat for Trump and
functioning more as his personal defense lawyer than as the nation's chief law
enforcement officer – even after he was confirmed as the AG early 2019.
As for Trump, he frequently praised Barr him in public and referred to Barr as “my attorney general.”
But Barr's fortunes took a turn for the worse in 2020, when
he was unable to find sufficient evidence to support Trump's claim that the FBI
launched the Russia investigation in an effort to sink his presidency.
Trump's anger with Barr then reached a boiling point near the end of 2020 Barr refused to publicly endorse his conspiracy theory that the presidential election was “rigged and stolen from him.”
The final straw came when, contrary to Trump's claims, Barr told reporters in December 2020 that the DOJ had uncovered no evidence of widespread, nationwide voter fraud.
Trump went ballistic when he heard that and
yelled at Barr: “Why did you say that?” Barr responded: “Because that’s true.”
That was the cement that sealed Barr’s doom – or in this case, his career and tomb.
Impact: Barr resigned less than two weeks later (Trump
apparently told him to resign or be fired).
All the while Trump behind the scenes continued to pressure DOJ
to support his wild claims of electoral malfeasance by repeatedly asking senior DOJ officials to force battleground states not to certify Biden's
victory.
My 2 Cents: Trump wanted
the final vote count process to be stopped and attacking the Capital on January
6 in DC during for the final EC election certification was the plan his rioters tried do.
We know what happened on
that horrible day as Trump loyalists stormed the Capital to “Hang Mike Pence”
and “Stop the Steal.”
That history is still
unfolding with over 500 rioters now arrested facing many Federal charges and trials
and probably lengthy jail time. And rightly so.
