Pre-January 6 Text: GOP Freedom Caucus Members Knew About Attack in Advance

Unknown sender text to Meadows before attack
(House Select Committee Has the Text)

Story here from The Independent with this headline:

Chilling text sent by pro-Trump Republican before Capitol riot suggests knowledge of what was to unfold…”

A text message sent one or two days before the January 6 attack on the Capitol is raising new questions about what members of Congress on Capitol Hill knew about the attack and how that horrible day and event would play out even before it occurred.

The Washington Post obtained a text message (image posted above) sent to then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows with a dire warning for the president that reads:If POTUS allows this to occur … we’re driving a stake in the heart of the federal republic.”

The Post said the text was sent by a member of the House Freedom Caucus, a far-right group of Republicans, “who had knowledge of the president’s planning for that day.” The Post cited a staff member for the House Select Committee for the characterization of the lawmaker.

It wasn’t clear who or what the Freedom Caucus lawmaker was referring to, but news of its existence comes as the January 6 committee has taken an interest in both lawmakers who helped or encouraged the effort to overturn the election, as well as organizers of two “Stop the Steal” rallies that day which were credited with drawing thousands of Trump supporters to Washington, DC.

It is possible the lawmaker was referring to either: (1) the efforts to convince Vice President Mike Pence to interfere in the Electoral College count, or (2) the possibility of violence itself.

It’s also possible that the unnamed Republican was referring to the possibility of Trump allowing Joe Biden to be sworn in as president, although it could hardly be argued that Trump was letting that happen without a fight given his months of legal challenges and other efforts to overturn his election defeat.

Two key questions vis-à-vis that short text:

(1) What exactly did the GOP Freedom Caucus member mean by “this?”

(2) What else could the “this” be?

How grim and chilling that information is if that lawmaker knew something Trump was plotting beyond what we all now know happened on January 6 (i.e., the pre-planning, the funding, the organizing, the logistics, and more importantly who the coordinators were: that is their names, locations, and contact references, etc.)?

Texts to Meadows have emerged as some of the most politically-damaging revelations uncovered by the January 6 committee thus far.

Despite months of efforts by GOP lawmakers and right-leaning pundits to minimize the severity of the Capitol attack, the messages obtained from Meadows’ phone reveal a very different picture of the riot and illustrates the panic and concern that many of Trump’s closest allies expressed privately and to Meadows while his supporters were storming the Capitol.

Among those who texted Meadows in horror during the riot included everyone ranging from Republican members of Congress (Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), to prominent Trump allies on Fox News (Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham), and Trump’s own son (Donald Jr.).

Another key example is from one yet-unnamed member of Congress who simply texted Meadows saying:Fix this now.”

That text was from the White House and already in the Committee’s possession.

My 2 Cents: Good info now in the hands of the January 6 committee that all leads to the very top culprit: Donald J. Trump.

Without any doubt Trump was the ringleader, and fully in charge (as he always is).

Time will prove that fact true.

Thanks for stopping by.
