Being dumb is the #1 strand of DNA
that runs deep in the Trump family line.
The latest here
from CNN with comments from Eric Trump with this headline (formatted to
fit the blog):
“Eric
Trump thinks he knows why Putin didn't invade Ukraine while his dad was
president”
Much has been made by Trump and
his allies that Russian President Vladimir Putin didn't invade Ukraine until
the Republican had left office.
Donald J. Trump told a crowd in SC recently in a speech: “Make no
mistake, however, then Russia would not have dared to annex one inch of
territory if I was in the White House. In fact, they never did it when I was
there. A lot of people ask the question, “How come they never did it when Trump
was president and China?” He said they knew better. Yeah that's true.”
Now, comes along Eric Trump, second-eldest son, who thinks he knows why that, too.
He told Fox's Sean Hannity recently: “Putin was in with KGB. He
can read people and he could tell that Donald Trump was a very strong person.”
That comment was almost unintentional and an echo of what George W. Bush once said of Putin following a summit
in Slovenia in June 2001: “I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very
straightforward and trustworthy. We had a very good dialogue. I was able to get
a sense of his soul; a man deeply committed to his country and the best
interests of his country.”
That comment was widely
mocked at the time and, obviously, with the hindsight of history, looks even
worse.
Now with Eric Trump's
insistence that, somehow, Putin made a psychological assessment of his father
and that's why he didn't invade Ukraine is also ripe for mockery.
John Bolton, who served as Trump's national security adviser, suggested recently on a podcast that Putin may have waited to invade Ukraine because he thought Trump would pull the United States out of NATO if he won reelection.
Then consider what we found out about Russia and Trump in 2016 – namely that Russia actively worked to interfere in the election to help Trump win.
Cite this from S/C Robert Mueller's final report, which makes it clear
what Russia did:
“First, a Russian entity carried
out a social media campaign that favored presidential candidate Donald J. Trump
and disparaged presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.”
“Second, the Russian
Intelligence Service (SVR)
conducted computer-intrusion operations against entities, employees, and
volunteers working on the Clinton Campaign, and then released stolen documents.”
My Insert: Russian hackers known as “Fancy Bear” and then later leaked by WikiLeaks printed the stolen emails and other documents (AP story link) and published them worldwide. The investigation also identified numerous links between the Russian government and the Trump Campaign.
The investigation also identified numerous links between the Russian government
and the Trump Campaign.
Recall what Trump said publicly
on TV on July 28, 2016 at a press conference in Miami, FL (here from BBC News and
NPR via YouTube):
Remembering all those facts
makes Donald Trump's oft-repeated assertion that “no one was tougher than me on
Russia” seem laughable.
Plus, it makes Eric Trump's
insistence that Putin knew his father was “a very strong person equally
humorous.”
My 2 Cents: The above says
it all, that dumb and stupid runs deep in the Trump family DNA. Case closed.
Now accountability for the
very top guy is sorely needed and long overdue.
Thanks for stopping by.
