Gun Violence: Families, Relatives, Friends Grieve While GOP Has No Rational Help

Gun-related deaths running amok

Nation-wide very troubling numbers

Many could have been avoided

Ugly outlook based on present cases

Cost in lives and dollars makes no sense

More on guns from an interview on FOX News with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) about the GOP's stance on gun laws following the latest round of mass shootings and Republicans facing new scrutiny over guns following recent mass shootings in Nashville, TN; Louisville, KY; and Dadeville, AL recently.

Newsweek's article headline of that interview:

“Fox News Host Confronts Republican on Guns Amid Round of Mass Shootings”

Those as well as earlier mass shooting in a school in TX, a shopping center in Buffalo, and individuals like the 16-year old shot after ringing the wrong doorbell; two cheerleaders shot for getting in the wrong car at the Mall; or a young woman shot and killed turning around in the wrong driveway all have prompted new calls for gun control measures.

Republicans have resisted any calls for action with most if not all saying: Doing so would violate the Second Amendment, which guarantees the right of the people to keep and bear Arms.”

Mace acknowledged that gun safety has become a difficult topic for the GOP, criticizing her party for their silence on the issue.”

While she noted she remains a “constitutional conservative,” she called on her party to enact: “Common sense policies to lessen gun violence, including (1) an Amber Alert-style notification of mass shootings, (2) stronger background checks for those who want to purchase guns, and (3) hardening of public spaces.”

Mace then added:We want to bury our hands in the sand, but guess what — it's not going away. I see it. I'm in a very purple district, even though I'm in South Carolina. It is an issue that continues to be a problem for Republicans, and we've not learned anything from the midterm elections if we're going to sit here on our hands silently not reducing gun violence, and it's not about gun control.”

My 2 Cents: My position on guns and the growing mass shootings has not changed and BTW I support the 2nd Amendment but what is lacking nowadays is common sense.

Rep. Mace is rational and logical and I too hold this simple view: The right “bear arms” is stated in the Constitution, but not to go wild with AR-15’s; extended magazines; bump stocks; and such.

Worse as I’ve stated many times ae the horrible state “open carry laws” that allow anyone (permit or not in some states) to just strap on a gun and go out in the public anywhere, anytime, and for any reason.

To me that is utter insanity and it expands the idea of someone just looking for trouble in a “wild, wild west” setting: Shoot first and then ask or wonder why.

FYI: I posted about this subject also here.
