Wasted Space at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan - Hey, It's Your Money
This story is not uncommon and and ever since 9/11, and after we invaded Iraq while leaving Afghanistan to simmer until we returned in full force, as it were, is still with us and apparently gotten worse. That story: government waste and tax dollars down the toilet (at least the toilet drain works to carry our money away, right)?
POGO blog is here - in part (POGO is the Project on Government Oversight)
This week, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) notified top Pentagon officials of two egregious examples of waste at Camp Leatherneck, headquarters for the U.S. Marine Corps in southwestern Afghanistan.
First, on Monday, Special Inspector General John Sopko sent an alert letter to Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, Central Command chief General Lloyd Austin III, and Afghanistan forces commander General Joseph Dunford, Jr., about a recently constructed command and control facility at Camp Leatherneck. SIGAR learned that the $34 million facility will never be used.

FYI - POGO was founded in 1981. They originally worked to expose outrageously overpriced military spending on items such as a $7,600 coffee maker and a $436 hammer.
In 1990, after many successes reforming military spending, including a Pentagon spending freeze at the height of the Cold War, POGO decided to expand its mandate and investigate waste, fraud, and abuse throughout the federal government.
Like I said, it's your money, too.
