Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) — Whistle While You Work
Original Story - that lasted one day from MSNBC/Reporter: Suzy Khimm follows this major update segment seen here:
Boehner on rye and a draft Bud, please.
Original Post: “After trying to wage a war they’ve already lost, the House GOP leadership threw up its hands and agreed to vote on a clean debt-limit bill on Tuesday.
“The move came less than 24 hours after the GOP had unveiled a
proposal to attach a reversal of military pension cut to raising the
borrowing limit. It prompted a fierce backlash by conservatives who pointed out
that the plan actually increased entitlement spending, flying in the face of
the GOP’s argument that the debt limit should be a check on Washington ’s
out-of-control budget.
“It’s the fact that we don’t have 218 votes. If you don’t
have 218 votes you have nothing,” House Speaker John Boehner told reporters on
Tuesday morning, announcing the vote on a clean bill. The GOP leadership still
needs to find 18 Republican votes to join Democrats to lift the debt limit
until early 2015.
“It’s the outcome that most observers were expecting anyway.
Republicans, after all, just overwhelmingly voted to pass a $1 trillion spending package after
losing the painful shutdown battle. But Boehner decided to let the caucus go
through the motions one more time, perhaps to show them just how little
leverage they have left.
“Over the past week, House Republicans have floated everything
from repealing part of Obama-care to fast-tracking the Keystone XL Pipeline
before the leadership settled on the military pension idea—the only idea that
deemed to be politically palatable, precisely because it’s a reversal of the
only difficult cut in the 2014 budget. Under fire from conservatives, the plan
took another hit on Monday when the Senate unanimously voted to undo the cuts.”

I would add this and say, “If it weren't for bad luck, the GOP wouldn't have any luck at all.”
The GOP is bruised and battered yet holding out between now and November when they face the voters and tell them: “I tried.
I still blame Obama and the DEMS for this fiscal and economic nightmare of a mess
and wild spending. I did all I could, and I still need more time to work for
you.”
(Note: cheering will be heard off camera as they get reelected and ride back into DC to do what I ponder: rejoin the 10 percent job approved Congress). Tell me it won’t happen that way?

Historical facts: Since
1980, the debt ceiling has been raised 42 times. In fact, very president since
the 1940’s, except for Harry Truman, raised the debt ceiling. That scorecard:
1. 17 times under Ronald Reagan
2. 4 times under Bill Clinton,
3. 7 times under George W. Bush
4. 5 times under Barack Obama
That is a total of 24 times under the GOP and 9 times under the DEMS (a 10th time is now pending).
