Sign of the Times: Not a Good Sign — What Happened to Protecting Public Safety

This post follows the Anti-Vaxxer movement and their reasons and stories for not getting the COVID-19 vaccine.

All the stories follow this short CDC statement re: The concerns about side effects from the vaccine are a common reason people cite for not getting vaccinated against COVID-19.

The CDC also called serious, long-term side effects from the vaccine “extremely unlikely while also noting that millions of people have gotten the COVID-19 vaccine without any serious post-vaccine issues.

My 2 Cents: Other than for bona-fide medical reasons or deeply-held religious convictions, there is no reason to not get the COVID vaccination.

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio summarizes it perfectly:

We've got to end the COVID-era. Our police officers, our EMTs, our firefighters, and all our public employees — a lot of them come in very close contact with their fellow New Yorkers. They need to be safe. Their families need to be safe, but we also need to reassure all New Yorkers that if you're working with a public employee, they're vaccinated. Everyone's going to be safe.”

Finally, politics should not be part of this debate – none whatsoever.

Public health and safety are paramount. Why a growing number of people can’t see and comprehend that is beyond any rational or logical thought at least in my view
