From Reuters two options for Trump or so he says as noted in the
article below with this headline:
“Trump
says Americans could reach ‘breaking point’ if he is jailed”
WASHINGTON, June 2 (Reuters) - Donald Trump said he would
accept home confinement or jail time after his historic conviction by
a New York jury last week but that it would be tough for the public to accept.
Trump told FOX News
on Sunday (June 1): “I'm not sure the public would stand for it. I think
it'd be tough for the public to take. You know, at a certain point, there's a
breaking point.”
Trump did not elaborate on what he thought might happen if
that point is reached. He is scheduled to be sentenced July 11, four days
before RNC gathers to formally choose their presidential nominee who will face President
Joe Biden in November's election.
Trump’s
daughter-in-law and RNC co-chair, Lara Trump, told CNN when she was asked what
Trump supporters should do if he were jailed and she said: “Well, they're
gonna do what they've done from the beginning, which is remain calm and protest
at the ballot box on November 5th. There's nothing to do other than make your
voices heard loud and clear and speak out against this.”
Trump has used his conviction to step up his fundraising
efforts but he has not otherwise sought to mobilize his supporters. The RNC and
the Trump campaign raised $70 million in the 48 hours after the guilty verdict
– a figure that Reuters was not able to independently. Asked how much would be
used to pay legal fees versus running the campaign, and Lara Trump declined to
say.
Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), expressed concerns about Trump's supporters responding violently to his conviction saying: “His base listens to him. They don't listen to Lara Trump. And this is another dangerous appeal to violence.”
Conversely, GOP House
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), a hardcore Trump ally, told FOX News that any
response must be lawful, saying: “We are the rule of law party – chaos is
not a conservative value. We have to fight back and we will with everything in
our arsenal. But we do that within the confines of the rule of law.”
My note on MAGA Mike Johnson’s FOX remarks in one word: BS. This GOP
today and under people like Johnson, Reps. Taylor Greene, Jordan, Comer, Stefanik
and half of the House GOP is not the GOP of yesterday – not one bit. They are
now Trump sycophants.
Trump’s fav word is witch hunt
but today that applies to you Mr. Speaker and those clinging to Trump’s
coattails.
Trump has vowed to appeal his conviction by the
New York jury, which found him guilty of 34 felony counts over falsifying
documents to cover up a payment to silence a porn star ahead of the 2016
election.
The matter is unlikely to be resolved before the November
presidential election, when he will seek to take back the White House from
Biden. Opinion polls show a close race between the two men and suggest that his
conviction could hurt him with some Republican voters and independents. Trump attorney Will Scharf said on ABC “This
Week” that he does not expect Trump to “end up being subject to any
sentence whatsoever and that we plan to ultimately take the case to the U.S. Supreme
Court.”
Trump still faces three other criminal cases,
although they are not likely to come to trial before the election. He denies
wrongdoing in all the cases and has called the charges a Democratic
conspiracy to prevent him from competing.
President Biden,
meanwhile, has sought to defend the nation's justice system, saying in part in
his recent remarks following the verdict: “It is reckless and dangerous to
call the verdict rigged.”
Plus, the DOJ denies any political interference.
My 2 Cents: I agree with President Biden and the DOJ, the trial
against Trump was fair and showed no favor – The GOP fails to cite legal
actions and trials now pending against Hunter Biden (D-DE), and Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) as two
high profile examples.
For Speaker Johnson to say
this GOP is the still the law and order party is not only hypocritical but totally
outrageous to say the least.
Their actions since gaining
the House majority proves that beyond any doubt at any level.
In my opinion I hope that
Judge Juan Merchan gives Trump a minimum of 6 months in jail and then House
confinement for two and half years. That would be fair and just. But, we have
wait and see if SCOTUS rescues Trump or not – if they do that would plainly
show “favor” and a disgrace to the nation – proving that Trump is truly above
the law.
Finally, I would say that
Speaker Johnson is in way over his head and if possible he should be removed
from office – how I’m not sure, but if the Dems take back the house in November
that would be perfect at least in my view. We shall see where the voters stand –hopefully
they will stand for justice and that NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW.
Thanks for stopping by.
