Trump Says China Behind COVID-19: Says He is Not Allowed to Reveal His Source

Listen to me: I know China released the virus & pandemic
But, I'm not allowed to tell you

Trump’s latest anti-China statement comes as he also made an unfounded claim that the coronavirus originated in a Chinese lab (e.g., implying it was on purpose and with some nefarious reason).

That unfounded claim reported on here from CNN in part. The impact is starting already – case in point:

Wall Street stocks opened lower Friday (May 1) after Trump hinted that there could be new tariffs imposed on China as a result of the Covid-19 outbreak. Trump said late Thursday that the trade deal with China “is now secondary to what took place with the virus.”

Trump contradicted the statement from his own intelligence community by claiming that he has seen evidence that gives him a “high degree of confidence the coronavirus originated in a laboratory in Wuhan, China,” but he declined to provide details to back up his assertion.

When he was asked whether he's seen evidence that would suggest the virus originated in the lab and why he was so confident in that assessment he demurred: Yes, I have. I can't tell you that. I'm not allowed to tell you that.”

Note: A huge WTF moment for sure. Trump says he knows something about the Chinese connection to COVID-10, and got his information from or was told by someone, not officially in our government that he, the President of the United States, was NOT allowed to say where his info came from?

His comments undercut a public statement from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence issued just hours earlier which stated no such assessment has been made and continues to “rigorously examine whether the outbreak began through contact with infected animals or if it was the result of an accident at a laboratory in Wuhan.

Background: Trump officials have been pushing the U.S. intelligence community to determine the exact origins of the coronavirus outbreak in pursuit of an unproven theory that the pandemic started because of a laboratory accident in China, multiple sources told CNN.

In acknowledgment of that effort, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence issued an unprecedented public statement Thursday prior to Trump's comments making clear the intelligence community is currently exploring two possibilities but cannot yet assess if the outbreak “was the result of an accident at a laboratory in Wuhan, or began through contact with infected animals.”

It is unusual for the intelligence community to comment publicly on its work before a formal assessment is made. Thursday's statement appears to have come in response to growing questions over the origins of the virus as Trump administration officials have spent weeks repeatedly floating the theory that the virus originated inside a Chinese lab.

My 2 cents: Trump is a man who knows no bounds, ignores any established process, dodges rules and law, and possesses not one lick of common sense about most anything except of course, his own pride, ego, and need for daily praise and fluffing.

His actions or inactions are careless for any person in such a powerful position and more so as the president of our great country – all he is doing is dragging us down to his level and that level is pretty damn low.

Those in our intelligence positions based on story and many others over the last three years, if they had any honor and dignity or love of our country that they took a solemn oath to protect and would after this latest from Trump resign from office en masse.

Thanks for stopping by.
