Note: Misinformation: Information that is placedby a simple mistake not covertly and not with malice, intent, or purpose.
VS
* Disinformation: Information that is purposely placed with the full intent
to cause harm, disruption, distrust, and chaos. Mostly in modern times used to covertly
disrupt or topple established governments, competing political systems around
the globe for self-interests and for political, military, financial, or more
devious purposes.
Two introductions to
this topic on voting rights.
Here first from the Brennan
Center at NYU.
After historic turnout and increased mail voting in 2020, state lawmakers across the country are pulling in opposite directions by introducing restrictive and expansive voting legislation. Plus, the Brennan Center has published another resource listing restrictive and expansive state voting legislation by bill number.
That contains the most up-to-date number
of voting bills — both restrictive and expansive — in the states as of February
19, 2021. It can be seen here.
This second introduction and very good article is here from NEWSWEEK.
State governments all across the country have introduced
hundreds of bills aimed to redesign the U.S. election cycle.
Why: After one of
the most contentious and litigated elections in modern history, hundreds of
bills have been introduced and aimed at redesigning the U.S. election cycle.
Simply put: the GOP is angered by losing in 2020 and they now seek revenge
anyway possible.
State lawmakers (many GOP-run states) have introduced
more than 250 bills in 43 states that would work to restrict voting access,
according to info at the Brennan Center (linked above).
Conversely, there have also been 704 bills carried over or
introduced that contain provisions to expand voting access in a different set
of 43 states.
Key State: Harsh election policies formulating
after their 2020 losses here also from NEWSWEEK:
Georgia (in House
Bill 531): The GA State Legislature has introduced a series of new election
bills that are aiming to transfer power from the secretary of state's office
and county boards of elections over to lawmakers.
Among the GOP proposals:
Creation of a new chairman of the State Election Board to be
appointed by lawmakers. Currently, the secretary of state, an elected official,
serves as the chairperson.
Turn the secretary of state from a voting member of the
board to a nonvoting member.
Bill also seeks to
restrict voter access number of proposals:
1. Require photo ID for absentee voting
2. Limit the time in which voter can request absentee
ballots
3. Narrow the locations of ballot drop boxes
4. Reduce early voting hours.
GA DEM response is simple: Georgia
GOP Declared “Open Season” on Black Voting Rights.
Related: This from the USSC that effectively ends the Trump
lies and hype he started and maintains that is driving this madness (e.g., 2020
was rigged, fraud, corrupt, and an illegal election) wherein he in fact lost GA
four times: Election day, vote count, vote recount, and several court cases
against him, and now the final straw at the USSC for the third time: The
proverbial final nail in that coffin of Trump BS (USSC
refuses his WI challenge 100% decision).
Related is this election-related move in TN also from NEWSWEEK
– subject: “Tennessee Judge Could Be Removed from Bench for Expanding Absentee
Voting in 2020.”
My 2 cents: Let’s face it, this GOP simply will not let go of election “reform” that fits their winning strategy and long term plans for America and their actions to make voting harder, not easier; unsecure, not safe; unbalanced; and unfair that has lingered for many decades, and now here we go again.
Courts stepped in and stopped the 2020
Trump-driven crazy nonsense and that included over 60 court cases he lost,
including three USSC rulings (latest cited above) against his nonsense, yet
they now are expanding at the state levels as also noted above.
Attention is needed by all
voters to help rid us of this cancer ASAP.
So, stay tuned – it could
get very nasty and ugly.
My earlier post on this
same subject is post below at this link.
